The Buffalo and Goderich Railway Bridge
The Sarnia Observer and Western Advertiser December 8, 1853
We are happy to state that the work of this bridge was completed on Saturday last. There are upwards of6000 yards of solid masonry in the piers and abutments, which have been completed, by the energetic contractors, in the space of 18 weeks. the wood work of the bridge is also in a very forward state, and the whole structure will be completed by January 1st, ready for crossing. We are sorry to say that a serious accident happened on the works last Friday Mr. W.P. Farrel, the foreman of the works fell off the piers, at a height of 62 feet; it was a mercy that he was not killed on the spot. Happily, however, though much bruised and shaken, he is doing well, and strong hopes are entertained of his recovery.– Paris Star
