The Pioneer Locomotive. — Shortly after two o’clock on Tuesday afternoon, the first cry of the Pioneer Locomotive was heard in London; and soon after, up she came, bringing with her a cargo of passengers, among whom was Mr. Bridges, and some other prominent members of the Great Western Company. A large number of spectators were on the depot ground, awaiting the advent of the first locomotive to the centre of Canada West, who, upon her arrival, envinced their feelings by hearty cheers. It was a thrilling moment. We learned without that the trip was made in capital time, and without accident. The train remained intown during Tuesday evening, and returned to Hamilton on Wednesday morning, performing the trip in 3 hours and 20 minutes; being at the rate of nearly 21 miles an hour, including stoppages, which is very good going for an experimental trip merely. May speed and safety ever be the watchwords of the Great Western. — London Free Press.
