Some little quarrying of stone for culverts, of the Grand Trunk Railway, has been going on in this neighbourhood, and will be continued through the winter.  Active operations will be commenced in the spring.

We have had some hints that the Directors intend to finish the road from Montreal to Prescott before the other portions are completed.  We hope this will prove correct, as it will be of great advantage in

building the road to the westward, and also prevent the stoppage of trade at any time between Upper and Lower Canada.  There is now an immense amount of goods below, for the Upper Province, which

must of necessity go over the Ogdensburgh road, and be reshipped at that place, carrying money out of the province, and supporting a rival to our carrying trade.  By the close of navigation next year the

railway from Montreal to Prescott — about 110 miles — can be so far finished that the raod can be made available for the transit of passengers and freight during the following winter.  It will be the easiest and

cheapest grade of the whole line to Sarnia.  –  Prescott Telegraph
